Meta's Muse Wonder lands two points off Opus 5.5, leaving Dario ten days of frontier to pace

Big thing

Meta releases Muse Wonder, its first frontier model

Meta Superintelligence Labs shipped Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, which scored 52 and 56 on the Artificial Analysis index, two points behind Opus 5.5. Wonder is on Meta's API and Muse Code at a reported $4/$20 per million tokens, Full only in Muse Code, and neither gets open weights: "too big for many people to use".

Impressed, with benchmaxxing doubts. @theo put it in S tier next to Opus 5.5 (699K), and @tobi: "Meta is back." @bridgemindai called it "benchmaxxed": on the BridgeBench lava lamp test "it built a red cylinder". @alexandr_wang admitted "we did not explicitly train our model on 3d demo games". r/accelerate's top reply: "The competition in AI is actually insane".

Dario wants the labs to slow down their best models ("pacing the frontier"), but you can only slow down if you're ahead. Anthropic is now 2 points ahead on the index, and Meta made 8 in the last six weeks (Spark 1.3 to Wonder Full), so at Meta's speed that's about 10 days of lead to pace with.

Labs news & launches

1. Anthropic: small models may be months from copying themselves onto smart TVs

Its Frontier Red Team ran Gemma4-26B across 15 off-brand Android TV boxes at about $55 each, and on a firewalled test network, with the hacking step made deliberately easy, GLM-5.2 spread to all 8 nodes in 4 of 5 trials. "We're seeing signs of life for AI worms."

Fear on r/singularity, eye-rolls on r/LocalLLaMA, where a 517-pt thread called it "free marketing for open weight models" and a reply said the point was to "fear monger about open weights". r/singularity's top reply: "Imagine your smart oven harbouring a rogue AI agent lol."

2. Anthropic says it cut what distillers harvest from Claude by 90 to 99%

Classifiers, stricter limits and tens of thousands of banned accounts, often within two hours of a campaign starting. It names Zhipu, which it says distilled cyber skills for GLM-5.3, and Moonshot, whose Kimi requests were secretly forwarded to Claude.

Praise from Washington, mockery from open-weights fans. @DavidSacks congratulated Anthropic: "Not every technical challenge is a reason to run to Washington for new regulation." A 303-pt r/LocalLLaMA post called it "free publicity for GLM again".

3. Google teases Gemini 4 Argon for today

Logan Kilpatrick posted one word, "Gemini" (318K), after users saw older Gemini models vanish from Antigravity. TestingCatalog says Google has confirmed Argon arrives today for Ultra subscribers.

Mostly jokes about the timing. @scaling01: "meta shipped before google could ship gemini 4 argon💀". @ChrisGPT asked if Argon is "dead on arrival", with Wonder Full at 56 on the Artificial Analysis index to Argon's 53.

4. SpaceXSI bundles Grok, Cursor and X Premium into one plan

The X Subscription starts at $8 a month. Paid plans share one usage pool across Cursor and Grok, with twice the Grok coding usage of the matching Cursor plan, while third-party models in Cursor move to API pricing (@cursor_ai). Current plans stay unless you switch.

Fans see the everything app; Cursor users winced at the fine print. @ns123abc: "X the everything app. It's happening" (325K). @ChrisGPT: "I was sad to hear that third-party models in Cursor are billed separately."

5. Microsoft will make its own Maia chips its main inference system

Nadella says Maia will scale to multi-gigawatt deployments from next year, and Microsoft expects the new Maia 300, shipping in 2027, to deliver "40% more tokens per watt" than leading GPU systems. Racks hold 96 chips at about 167 kW.

Awe and shrugs on r/accelerate. One reply: "The sheer scale of the innovation going into AI is actually otherwordly". Another: "So, MSFT discovered TPUs 12 years after GOOG?"

6. Epic goes AI-first: "No more hand-written code"

Epic delayed its Star Wars and Marvel shooter, and its developers were told to stop writing code by hand and make all art "with full AI workflows" (@DiscussingFilm, 1.5M). Tim Sweeney: "We have a huge pivot underway here at Epic", to build "MORE and BETTER stuff", not to cut people.

Cheers from AI fans, dread among game developers. r/singularity's top reply: "r/gamedev in shambles". @amasad: Epic "can easily become the most valuable gaming company if you manage this transition well."

7. Linus Torvalds uses AI to untangle kernel code, and finds bugs from 2013

Faced with library code "too obscure for me to follow", Torvalds had LLM tools split it into readable functions; testing confirmed the reported bug and found three more, all from its first commit in 2013. He is also using Claude Code on a big kernel speedup.

A victory lap for AI coding. r/singularity's top reply: "Linux is about to become the best OS out there". @dhh: "thank our lucky stars that Linus isn't part of the anti-ai nonsense that's ravaging the old Linux world."

8. SubQ Snap: a decision model that reads 384K tokens for $0.05 per million

▶ Watch the video

Subquadratic's model returns a decision instead of text, keeps compute per token flat as context grows and processes 100K tokens in under a second, with output free. It claims 61.7 on Decision Index 0.2.1, the public benchmark for decision models, to Jev's 57.9.

Builders liked the price and asked for baselines. @omarsar0: "Many calls in an agent workflow are structured decisions, so paying frontier prices doesn't make sense." @ai_for_success: "What baselines were used for the 13 benchmark wins?"

Key research

DeepMind's weather model called Hurricane Isaias 11 days out

Per the post, Google DeepMind's model picked up the storm 11 days before landfall, pinned where it would hit 4 days out and its peak strength 3 days out; a reply checking WeatherLab found it worse than the ICON model overall, "But, apparently, it's good for hurricanes." It matters because every extra day of warning is a day to evacuate. At 1,068 pts it was r/singularity's top post of the day.

Qwen's QwenGyre: RL for agents that run 700K tokens per attempt

It moves GPUs between running the agent and training it without stopping live runs (up to 1.85x faster), and still scores partial progress when a run times out; on Qwen3.8-2.4T it lifted NL2RepoBench from 52.5% to 58.5% in 48 steps, with about 44% less training time. It matters because the recipe for training long-horizon coding agents is now public. r/LocalLLaMA gave it 436 pts.
