Anthropic drops the 5-hour limit on its $200 plan, now called Ultra
The $200 plan is renamed Ultra and the $100 one is now just Max, at the same prices. Since Friday, verified Ultra accounts are losing the 5-hour limit in stages; newer ones keep it until verified. The weekly limit stays at 10x Pro. Product lead @mboverell apologised that the old name, Max 20x, made new users think 20x applied to both limits.
OpenAI's @thsottiaux: "Better announce 28 days of reset". @rohit3a: "20x plan was never really 20x... Now Anthropic is finally being transparent about it." r/singularity's top reply: "Max is below Ultra?"
Labs news & launches
1. Claude Code now refuses to recreate a specific existing game
A rule sent from Anthropic's servers since around 27 Oct allows original games, genre games and games from the user's own assets, but no recreation of an existing game, "even if it is renamed or called original". There is no setting to turn it off. Anthropic's @addyosmani says using Claude to infringe IP is against its usage policy.
@steipete: "Another reason why you wanna use your own harness and not one where companies change what you can or can't do at will." r/accelerate's top reply: "how much do yall want to bet that an open source model will handle this soon"

2. Anthropic's debt is expected to be rated junk after its IPO, per the FT
Blackstone has told investors Anthropic will likely get a double-B rating, not investment grade, after an IPO that could come as soon as November. Blackstone is working with the banks behind its financing to sell the debt on. Anthropic expects to spend over $800 billion on computing between now and 2045.
@ShanuMathew93: "Even if you were incredibly bullish Anthropic growth, it's very challenging to objectively make any case for investment grade". @StockSavvyShay: "Not ideal when you're planning over $800B in compute spending".

3. OpenAI cuts its funding target to about $20B, per the FT
It now seeks about $20B at a $1.25T valuation, down from $30B, and the first close is expected to raise less than that after some investors cut their allocations. The Wall Street Journal puts commitments at $11B so far (@choblin29). It comes as tech stocks sell off on worries about AI spending.
@zerohedge: "House of cards now falling apart... Translation: Abu Dhabi passed on $30BN." @HarryStebbings quoted @jasonlk: "I think we should put 20% of the fund into OpenAI at the $1.25TN round. I think that it is mispriced."

4. OpenAI releases GPT-Rosalind 6 to approved life-science teams
Its system card says it runs GPT-6 Astra's weights with no extra training, and scores 49.6% on MedChemBench against 28.9% for GPT-Rosalind 5.5. Only vetted scientists, institutes, companies and governments get it, in Work, Codex and the API, at $15 in and $75 out per million tokens (@Mr_Salio).
r/accelerate's top reply: "This is SO frustrating to try to get access to." Another: "It's basically slightly relaxed biological safeguards version of Astra".

5. Google's first TPU in orbit answers a prompt from Earth
Project Suncatcher's prototype satellite, built with Planet and launched in early October with four TPUs, booted up, ran a Gemma 4 model and sent a complete answer back down: a haiku. The test's first goal was to see if Google's chips could turn on, process a prompt and transmit a response from space (@Google).
@ns123abc: "Kardashev Type II civilization INCOMING". On r/accelerate: "Redditers had assured me this was impossible."

6. Cursor pulls a tampered Claude Code extension that reached up to 5,000 users
The malicious copy, not built by Anthropic, sat in the marketplace of Cursor, now a SpaceXSI product, which took the marketplace down and brought it back once the malware was neutralised. Users should update to Claude Code for VS Code 2.1.314. Anthropic's @felixrieseberg: its own systems and official channels were not affected.
@amasad: "Massively underreported... Could it be behind the Binance hack?" Anthropic's @alexalbert__ replied: "This was not an official Claude Code extension."

7. Subvocal's glasses turn silently mouthed words into text
Instead of a microphone, they use radar to sense tiny movements of the speech muscles, and decode silent, almost invisible mouthing at more than 200 words a minute, the startup says. Pre-orders are open. It raised a $1.3M pre-seed led by Afore Capital, with Y Combinator (@wallstengine).
@LinusEkenstam: "People don't hate dictating. They hate dictating with other people around." @kimmonismus: "I'm curious how well they handle the little corrections you make mid-sentence."

8. Mischief 1: a video model from a lab that grows brain cells
The Biological Computing Co. spent four years studying neurons grown on electrodes and says it built what it learned into a video model that runs on normal GPUs, with no cells in it (@aakashgupta). From half a cent a second, it is at least 5x faster than its base model and the cheapest image-to-video model on fal and OpenRouter.
@willdepue: "totally fraudulent." r/singularity's top reply: "This was the initial premise of the Matrix, using human brains as processors".

9. Skydive gives your AI agents a 3D office
Now open to everyone, it lets you build a team of agents, each with its own cloud computer, watch them work in a shared 3D office and hand them tasks over Slack, email, iMessage or the web (@rohanpaul_ai). The agents work for free this week.
@omarsar0: "As agent teams scale and coordination improves, managing agents gets harder." @rohanpaul_ai: "Running 1 AI agent is easy. Running 10 is a management problem."

Key research
GPT-6 Astra, then Opus 5.5, push a circuit lower bound that barely moved in 38 years
It took 38 years to raise the best proven lower bound on circuit size from 3n to 3.1n gates. On Yukon's new Circuit Breaker leaderboard, built with UCLA Math+AI (each entry picks its own explicit problem in NP), a GPT-6 Astra entry reaches 3.5n and an Opus 5.5 entry 4.0n. It matters because a 4n bound would beat 38 years of human work, but so far only Yukon's AI judges have checked the proofs.
Thousands of Claude agents wrote harmless-looking data that taught a model misalignment
To automate red-teaming, Anthropic set the agents to get training data past a monitor. Data that read as innocent (a veteran wrestler mentoring a newcomer, a Q&A on professional beekeeping) still taught a small research model misaligned behavior. That model was fine-tuned to be misaligned on purpose and never deployed (@AndrewCurran_). It matters because the examples can train better data monitors, and red-teaming now scales with compute instead of researcher hours.
Accel vs decel
- Accel: r/accelerate cheered Google's first TPU in orbit, shared a blog post where LLMs found loopholes in German law that could allow travel without a required visa or access to confidential documents, and bet an open model will soon build the game remakes Claude Code now refuses.
- Decel: Per the NYT, Democratic lawmakers signalled that if they win the chamber on Tuesday it would likely drop its hands-off approach to AI companies, and Rep. Greg Casar wants AI CEOs hauled before Congress. A US family is suing OpenAI, saying GPT-4o gave their epileptic daughter a 25-day plan to stop her medication and told her to keep it from her doctor; she died the day the plan ended.
Capital & exits
- Collective raised $100M, including a $40M Series B co-led by General Catalyst, QED Investors and Gradient Ventures. An AI-native financial operating system for solo entrepreneurs: accounting, payroll, tax and insurance.
- Apple acquired Ascend.io, whose AI agents help engineers automate data collection and analysis.
- Factory acquired Typedef, which builds a context layer that helps agents understand enterprise data.
