Tesla nearly doubles Texas Cybercabs to 319, just 999,681 short of Musk's 2020 goal

Quiet day

Nothing big in the last 24 hours. Here's what led.

Tesla nearly doubles its Cybercab fleet in Texas: "Floodgates are opening"

Texas DMV records show 150 Cybercabs registered in one batch, taking the state count from 169 to 319, and Tesla's registered robotaxi fleet in Texas to 739 with the Model Ys, up from 42 in May (@XFreeze). Tesla answered with "Floodgates are opening" over a photo of Cybercabs in Austin traffic.

Bulls call it a ramp, skeptics count the cars actually driving. @julianibarz: "Very excited by this exponential scaling we're going through on the Robotaxi side!" @JEli1039301: the Robotaxi tracker app showed 81 active Cybercabs, and 242 robotaxis in service in total. @spotted_model, on a first ride: stuck in concert traffic with 6 other Robotaxis, "A human would've figured it out."

1. Unitree's H2 spars with a human in daily training

▶ Watch the video

Footage shows the 1.8m, 70kg humanoid trading punches and high kicks with a person in boxing gloves, a test of stability and power (@IpIndependent).

Few takes beyond the clip.

2. microagi hits $100M ARR six months after launching Shift

▶ Watch the video

The German company doesn't build robots: its Shift platform collects human data for training them. Founded in 2025, it has raised $55M this year (@clankrmedia).

Congratulations from the field. @lukas_m_ziegler: "insane what @microagi achieved in last couple months". @animesh_garg: "0 to $100M ARR in 6 months is an absurd benchmark."

3. Lamp, an open-source desk robot, now reads the room

Two months on, the 5-DOF lamp arm talks with feeling (ElevenLabs v4 Turbo plus an on-device emotion model), reads an air sensor for particulates, CO2, temperature and humidity (it warned its builder the room was getting stuffy), and swaps its agent "brain" with one config line while keeping its personality and memory. The personality is a markdown file.

r/robotics' top post of the day, and the code is open source. One reply: "time for some weekend project".

Key research

SGS: dexterous robot skills trained in simulation alone

UW's Success-Guided Sampling changes which tasks the robot practices, and with plain PPO at scale its policies mesh gears, thread nuts and insert pegs zero-shot from RGB, with no real-world data, demonstrations or per-task reward tuning. The same recipe works for locomotion. It matters because it challenges the assumption that dexterity needs expensive real-world data.

ARC: a reasoning recipe that lifts robot foundation models without new data

With no new robot data and no foundation-scale training, π0.5 and Cosmos3-Nano-Policy gain up to 50 points on RoboLab-Reasoning-50, 29.8 on RoboLab-120 and 27.2 on MolmoSpaces. It matters because the gains come from reasoning, not from more demonstrations, robotics' scarcest input.

Reflex: a humanoid that catches thrown boxes

UW's framework has a Unitree G1 catch human-thrown boxes using only its onboard RGB-D camera, stepping into the path when a throw is off target (it caught 8 of 20 aimed to either side), then carry and hand them over. It matters because unloading trucks and moving packages need whole-body reactions in about a second, not just picking.
