Quiet day
Nothing big in the last 24 hours. Here's what led.
Musk: Colossus 2 will hold about 1.2M Blackwell GPUs by the end of the year
Musk walked the SpaceX site in Memphis overnight and gave the count. Two halls, Macroharder and Minihard, each hold 220,000 GB300s set up for training. A third, Gun Range, gets the same and should run by the end of November. A fourth, Spam, in an old Hormel warehouse, gets about 200,000 GB300s for inference in December. With Macrohard, that makes about 1.2M Blackwells on the campus.
@spcxGOD: SpaceX guided "over 2 gigawatts" of compute by year-end on 4 August, and now "That's ~3 GW. 50% more compute than guided." @yacineMTB: "1.2 million Jesus Christ This guy is unstoppable"

Labs news & launches
1. ChatGPT and Codex will share one token allowance from December
OpenAI's help page now says Plus, Pro and Business plans get one allowance across ChatGPT and Codex, counted in tokens, so bigger models and harder tasks use it up faster. Only Instant chat stays outside it. The change comes as the agent features of ChatGPT Work move into the main app (@rohanpaul_ai).
r/singularity's top reply: "this is bad. grok did the same thing a few weeks ago. everything balled into the same usage so it drains quicker." @LuminaBench: "if they make this feel terrible Anthropic can happily take my money"

2. DeepMind's PlanAssist goes to 12 more UK councils
Built with Gemini for UK government planning officers, it cut the time they spend assessing householder applications by up to 58%, DeepMind says. Twelve more councils in England will join in three groups during a 12-month beta, for 15 in all.
r/accelerate's top reply: "Good. The quicker those in power defer to robust AIs for planning and decision-making the better." Another: "Yeah it won't speed up things by much when humans are the bottleneck."

3. Grok's API will watermark its text by default from 7 November
SpaceXSI turns an invisible watermark on for seven Grok API models, from Grok 4.7 to the 4.20 line, and for future models at launch. It changes which tokens Grok picks, so nothing is added to the text. Admins can opt out per model by claiming a legal exception; SpaceXSI cites the EU AI Act (@alexmichael).
@AndrewCurran_: "xAI was the last holdout, so the only model left that (as far as I know) does not watermark text is ChatGPT, and only ChatGPT in North America." @mark_k: "Sad to see @SpaceXSI joining the bandwagon, but I guess they didn't have much of a choice."

4. DeepSeek open-sources Super-Agent, a coding agent built to stay quiet
DeepSeek published the design of an always-on agent, with an MIT-licensed prototype on GitHub that it calls research code. It works through a repo's issues and PRs with many agents in parallel: one router talks to people, isolated workers do the tasks, and it reproduces a reported bug before speaking up with a fix (@HMLGGGG).
r/singularity's top reply: "the agent itself is fairly normal, what stands out is how hard they designed it to shut up." Another: "Doesn't seem.. That complicated? It's just GitHub bot"

5. OpenCode's hex: free voice dictation that runs on your own machine
The stable release is out for Mac, with Windows and Linux in beta: hold a key, talk, and the text lands wherever your cursor is (@RehanTemkar), in an agent's prompt or anywhere else. Speech runs on-device. OpenCode's @thdxr says it was fully vibe coded, from the app and landing page to the AI-made sound effects.
@dhh: "Made Hex available as a dictation option on Omarchy Dev." @benjamin_ACD: "it seems that Hex uses 10% of the CPU that Willow Voice does, and it's free which is awesome"

Key research
Practice on simulated patients made a Gemini model a better psychiatric interviewer
A Google DeepMind paper trained Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite with multi-turn RL against simulated patients who reveal key facts only after rapport and good questions. Graded blind by psychiatrists, it beat its base model in 76.7% of matched cases, and missed escalations of acute risk fell from 30.5% to 12.9% on adversarial cases. It matters because the intake interview is psychiatry's main diagnostic tool, and simulated patients let a model practise it with no real patient at risk.
Accel vs decel
- Accel: r/accelerate's #3 post, from an environmentalist who loves AI anyway, drew replies that AI barely registers in water use next to golf courses, almond farming and alfalfa. Members also read OpenAI's AI-made animation as a teaser for "Bel", its rumoured next model; the top reply: "The entire video is bells ringing".
- Decel: Former Ethereum Foundation researcher @dankrad called for a pause on training frontier models, through a US ban and a US-China treaty enforced by limits on hardware or data centers. A judge let the NAACP's Clean Air Act lawsuit over pollution from an xAI data center go ahead. A Polymarket post that a German minister proposes taxing all value created by AI drew 860K views; it traces to digital minister Karsten Wildberger's mid-October interview, after which he said "We have enough taxes".
